Puppy Time

Mr. and I had looked at Doodles online for months. We had a neighbor that had a big, curly brownish red Goldendoodle that melted my heart. I had never seen such a cute "big" dog before. I thought to myself...this is it!...I can get the cute cuddly dog I want but yet still meet Mr.'s want of a big dog. I looked at Doodles online often and once I realized what they were, I began seeing them more and more. When we finally got serious about getting a dog I was sad that we couldn't find a doodle to adopt or rescue. It is very rare to find one at the shelter or humane society.

After the unfortunate outcome with Sheeba, I had a little more persuasion with Mr. because Doodles are typically hypo-allergenic...which he clearly needed. While I had been sold on them for awhile, he still had some hesitation. I think in his mind he thought he would be giving in to a "girlie" dog if we agreed on a Doodle. A dog he would be embarrassed to be seen with. After spending a few days online searching, we found two local breeders with Doodles in the area. We were pretty set on getting a female and I really wanted to find one with a curly coat.

We contacted two breeders, one with a curly black puppy that would grow to be medium size and one with a cream coat that would grow to be the size of a standard poodle. Pictures of both looked cute but I was drawn to the cream one and the Breeder seemed more reputable. We set up a date to meet the dog. When we arrived at the Breeders house and saw the incredibly ADORABLE puppies running around I knew I wouldn't leave without one. They were about 12 weeks old and ready for a new home. There was 1 girl left with a curly coat, her name was Celeste and she was perfect. She was so cute and had a great personality. About an hour later we left with her and she became "our" dog. One our way home we stopped at the pet store, signed her up for Puppy Class and got her groomed. I didn't even recognize her after she was bathed and fluffed. Boy was she cute! We also spent the day discussing a new name...Celeste didn't suit her well. After a short period of time Mr. suggested Petunia. I liked it! It's crazy to think that was almost 2 years ago to the day...

Here are some pictures of her first week at home...

Somethings aren't meant to be....

We had discussed getting a dog in the past but the timing never seemed right...first we were renting an apartment, then we couldn't decide on a breed, and then we wondered if we would be home enough to have a dog. When my dad passed away I was left with an overwhelming feeling of loss and finally convinced Mr. that a dog would be a great pick me up. Additionally, Mr's mother had a similar situation when she was about my age, when her father passed away she got an amazing Jack Russell puppy. Mr. knew how much that dog meant to his mother and I think he wanted to replicate that for me. We had spend months debating what breed we would get so when the time finally came and we still couldn't decide, we went to Petfinder.com to see if we could find a dog available for adoption. After searching pictures online we stumbled upon a beautiful Husky and called to find out if she was still available. We drove to the foster house and met Sheeba, the Husky. She was a nice looking dog and we loved her demeanor and temperament. Knowing that we had two cats at home that had never met a dog before, the foster agreed to loan us the dog for the night to see if it was a match. We stopped at the store and bought everything we needed: bowls, a crate, a dog bed and food. Sheeba was approximately 6-9 months old and had already been trained to sit and walk on a leash. Mr. loved this! We kept the dog overnight but after the second day Mr. realized that he had a HORRIBLE allergy to this dog. After a few more hours he insisted that we take the dog back. I was sad but deep down I knew she wasn't the dog for us. First, I couldn't overlook the amount of shedding this dog had done in the short amount of time we had her at our house. There was fur everywhere! We already had two cats and the thought of having one more animal to vacuum up after really didn't sit well. Additionally, I just didn't feel a connection with her.

Well that had to hurt...

This week has been one crazy week which started with an injury. :(

Our little Petunia...all 60 lbs of her...likes to play a game where she STOPS on the step in front of you when you are trying to walk downstairs. Unfortunately, my husband, whom I will refer to as "Mr", got the worst of it. Just three steps from the bottom of the stairway Petunia stopped (in her usual fashion) but Mr. didn't. In order to prevent himself from completely tripping over her, he attempted...and the key here is ATTEMPTED...to step over her onto the next step. This didn't work. He tripped and landed on the hard tile floor with a twisted ankle and toes curled under. Mr. started his week with a sprained ankle, dislocated toe and horrible bruising on his little toe.

I warn you that the picture I am going to share is graphic and quite gruesome. You will also notice that Mr. doesn't get pedicures:)

So what exactly is a Doodle??

Well...to some this won't come as a surprise but the Doodle in my world is my amazing 2 year old Labradoodle, Petunia. The term doodle can actually refer to either a Goldendoodle or Labradoodle. In my opinion both are incredibly cute and reputable dogs. The Goldendoodle, a mix between a Golden Retriever and Poodle, and the Labradoodle, a Labrador Retriever and Poodle, have grown in popularity in the past decade. The Labradoodle also received national attention just over three years ago when the President and his family contemplated getting one. To most that own one of these "designer cross breeds" they represent joy, love and companionship. Sure...they are just a dog...but they are irresistibly cute and full of personality!! Follow me as I share some of the joy that my Doodle brings me... Pin It

Let the Blogging Begin...

It's time to venture into a world I don't know much about...Blogging! After becoming addicted to Pinterest in the past few months it has led to a recent surge of reading these interesting things called Blogs. While it may seem as though I live in a cave...and maybe I have been...this Blog thing is new to me. Yes...I've heard the word BLOG before but never realized how interesting, fun, motivating and addicting they could be. Now I have the urge to try this world of blogging...so join me as I begin this journey!

While my recent interest in blogging has led me to follow blogs on fashion, make-up and style, I have decided to start with something a little different...something I feel comfortable and excited to share with others...my life with a Doodle.
